Running For A Cause

Running For A Cause

Meet Amy, a passionate animal lover who recently accomplished an incredible feat with her two adorable rescue dogs, Ziggy and Snip. Amy, along with her furry companions, trained rigorously and have just completed a marathon together, to raise funds for the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge. This particular shelter provides essential and temporary care for abandoned and neglected cats and dogs. They also offer adoption services and ensure their animals go to forever homes. The Refuge is an independent, non-profit, charitable organization with a regulated non-euthanasia policy. They also run education programs for the community on responsible animal ownership.

1. What made you want to start training for a marathon with your dogs?

I originally decided to train for a marathon to challenge myself, and it was a no brainer my two sidekicks (Ziggy & Snip), would come on my runs with me, because let’s be real, they’re way better runners than me anyways!

And then combining my love of fitness and love of dogs - I decided to raise money and awareness for other rescue dogs along the way who would also love to be out running and enjoying life too!

2. What made you choose rescue dogs over a breeder?

I’ve always been such a big animal lover and my heart breaks knowing there are dogs being dumped, abandoned and left scared and alone. I knew I would adopt when the right time came and being able to give them a second chance on life and a loving home is the best feeling… I just need to figure out how I can adopt them all now!

3. Why did you choose that charity?

I would love to raise money for every single rescue because they are doing incredible things, however I chose to raise money for the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge during my marathon because they are our local animal shelter and we love to support local, especially showcasing the beautiful dogs to our community who are looking for their forever home.

4. For other people that want to start running with their dog, do you have any tips?

If you have active dogs like mine who LOVE to run, I highly recommend investing in the Ezydog Road Runner leash, it makes running with your dogs so much easier (plus they can pull you along when you need, it’s a win-win ?)
